Composite Dental Fillings & Bonding in Downtown SF (Financial District)
Composite resin bonding is a highly effective, biomimetic dental treatment used to restore, reshape, or enhance teeth. This procedure involves applying a tooth-colored composite material to the tooth’s surface to correct imperfections, repair damage, and improve appearance. Whether you’re dealing with cavities, chipped teeth, or gaps, composite resin bonding provides a quick, natural-looking, and minimally invasive solution.
What is composite resin bonding?
Composite resin bonding (CDT D2330-D2335 for anterior teeth; CDT D2391-D2394 for posterior teeth) is a restorative and cosmetic dental procedure where a pliable, tooth-colored material is applied to the tooth, shaped, hardened with a curing light, and polished for a smooth, natural finish. It bonds seamlessly to the underlying dentin and enamel, restoring both form and function while enhancing the tooth’s aesthetics.
When is composite resin bonding used?
Composite resin bonding is highly versatile and can be used to address a range of clinical dental concerns, including:
- Tooth Decay (ICD-10 K02.9): As a natural-looking alternative to metal amalgam fillings for cavities.
- Chipped or Cracked Teeth (ICD-10 S02.5): To restore the structural integrity and shape of damaged teeth.
- Gaps Between Teeth: To close small interproximal gaps (diastemas) for a more uniform smile.
- Discolored Teeth: To cover intrinsic stains and improve overall tooth color.
- Tooth Reshaping: To lengthen teeth or correct irregular anatomical shapes.
- Exposed Tooth Roots: To protect sensitive root surfaces where the gums have receded.
Benefits of composite resin bonding
- Aesthetic Results: The composite material can be shade-matched to blend perfectly with your natural teeth, providing a seamless appearance.
- Minimally Invasive: Bonding requires little to no removal of natural tooth enamel compared to crowns or veneers, preserving the maximum amount of healthy tooth structure.
- Quick and Efficient: Most bonding treatments can be completed in a single visit, making it a convenient solution for busy Downtown SF professionals.
- Cost-Effective: Composite resin bonding is generally more affordable than indirect cosmetic procedures like porcelain veneers or crowns.
- Durable and Strong: With proper care and biomimetic placement, bonded teeth can last several years, providing both occlusal function and aesthetics.
The composite bonding procedure
- Consultation and Shade Matching: Your dentist will evaluate your teeth and utilize a shade guide to select a composite resin that matches your natural tooth color.
- Tooth Preparation: The tooth surface is gently etched and conditioned with an adhesive bonding agent to ensure the composite resin adheres securely on a microscopic level.
- Application: The composite resin material is applied in increments, carefully sculpted, and shaped to restore or enhance the tooth’s anatomy.
- Curing: A specialized LED curing light is used to polymerize and harden each layer of the resin material, ensuring a strong bond to the tooth.
- Polishing: Once the resin is fully hardened, the dentist will adjust your bite, polish, and smooth the restoration to achieve a natural luster and a comfortable occlusion.
How long does composite bonding last?
With proper care, composite bonding can last 5-10 years or longer. Its longevity depends on factors such as oral hygiene, eating habits, and regular dental check-ups. Avoiding habits like biting nails, chewing on ice or hard objects, or severe bruxism (grinding teeth) will help prolong the life of your bonded restorations.
Caring for composite resin bonding
- Brush twice a day with a fluoridated or nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste.
- Floss daily to maintain interproximal gum and tooth health.
- Avoid biting on hard objects or foods that may chip the composite margin.
- Limit highly pigmented foods and drinks, like dark coffee, tea, and red wine, which can cause surface staining over time.
- Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and check-ups to monitor the bonding’s marginal integrity.
Why choose composite resin bonding?
Composite resin bonding is an excellent choice for patients seeking a cost-effective, minimally invasive, and aesthetically pleasing solution for dental imperfections. It provides immediate results and can transform your smile in just one visit.
If you are looking to repair a damaged tooth, fill a cavity, or enhance your smile, composite resin bonding may be the ideal treatment for you. Schedule a consultation with our Financial District office today to learn how this versatile solution can restore your oral health and confidence.

If you are actively seeking long-lasting composite dental fillings near me, our specialized clinical suite is located right at 100 Montgomery Street, Suite 350. We specialize in using metal-free, tooth-colored composite resin materials that bond directly to your enamel, completely eliminating the need for old silver amalgams. Our office location makes us the ideal choice for a dentist Downtown SF professionals choose for rapid, single-visit cavity treatments that preserve natural tooth structure safely right in the 94104 financial district.
how much do composite dental fillings cost in san francisco?
The total financial investment for dental fillings cost varies depending on the number of surfaces involved and the depth of the decay inside the tooth. When you meet with a premier dentist Financial District SF turns to for transparent billing, you will receive a complete, itemized fee layout before treatment begins. Our clinical coordinators focus on maximizing your preventative dentistry coverage to make structural tooth-colored restorations completely straightforward and affordable.
can I get composite dental fillings without insurance?
Yes, if you need dental fillings without insurance to stop tooth decay from reaching your nerve lines, our office near Montgomery Street offers clear out-of-pocket pricing grids and flexible financing terms. We bundle your digital diagnostics and composite placements into structured, predictable self-pay fees, making sure you don't have to delay essential restorative dentistry due to lack of corporate health coverage.
what are the safest dental fillings alternatives and options for broken teeth?
When addressing a cavity or fracture, advanced dental fillings alternatives and options depend on the volume of remaining healthy enamel. For small to moderate decay, a tooth-colored composite resin is the absolute gold standard for conservative restoration. However, if a tooth has lost an extensive amount of structural support or has undergone a root canal, our dentist Montgomery Street team may recommend an inlay, an onlay, or a full porcelain crown to completely cap and reinforce the tooth against daily bite pressure.
what steps are required for a proper dental fillings after care routine?
Your long-term dental fillings after care routine matches a disciplined home hygiene loop: brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, flossing thoroughly to protect the borders of the restoration, and avoiding biting on hard objects like ice or pens. Visiting a top dentist in Financial District twice a year for professional cleanings allows us to monitor the margins of your fillings, ensuring they remain perfectly sealed against new bacteria for five to ten years.
what happens during a composite dental fillings procedure?
The composite dental fillings procedure is efficient and minimally invasive, usually completed in a single comfortable visit. Your clinician first gently removes the decay, then slightly etches and conditions the enamel surface to ensure a tight seal. The pliable resin is applied carefully in thin layers, meticulously sculpted to replicate your natural bite, hardened with a special curing light, and polished to a beautiful finish that blends seamlessly into your smile line.
what are the healthiest dental fillings materials used today?
Modern dentistry relies entirely on bio-compatible, mercury-free dental fillings materials, moving away from old dark amalgams. At our office, we exclusively utilize advanced tooth-colored composite resin mixtures composed of fine ceramic and plastic polymers. When choosing treatment for cosmetic dentistry in Downtown SF, these custom-shaded materials provide magnificent structural strength and blend beautifully with your surrounding teeth.
what should I do immediately if my old dental fillings fell out?
If your old dental fillings fell out, it is critical to contact an emergency dentist in Financial District SF right away to seal the exposed inner dentin layer. Leaving an unprotected cavity open to oral fluids will lead to advanced chemical damage, rapid tooth decay, or an active root infection (ICD-10 K02.9). Dr. Tabar can quickly clean the area and bond a new, tooth-colored composite filling to relieve tooth sensitivity and protect your smile.
when are dental fillings necessary to protect a tooth?
Clinical dental fillings become a medical necessity the moment a cavity penetrates your outer enamel shell, as home care routines cannot reverse active decay. Our team utilizes advanced diagnostics right here near Montgomery Street to flag soft spots, structural cracks, or exposed tooth roots. Repairing these micro-flaws early stops infection from migrating into your jawbone, saving your natural teeth from complex extractions.
how does composite dental fillings bonding fix chips and gaps?
Advanced composite dental fillings bonding uses a versatile resin material to instantly repair cosmetic chips, reshape irregularly lengthened teeth, or securely close narrow gaps between teeth. Dr. Maryam Tabar color-matches the resin to your natural teeth, sculpting it precisely to enhance your facial aesthetics. This quick treatment is an excellent, cost-effective alternative to veneers or crowns for patients looking for immediate smile enhancements from a top dentist in 94104.
What is the difference between a filling and dental bonding?
While both use composite resin, a filling is used to restore a tooth after a cavity is removed, whereas bonding is typically used for cosmetic improvements like fixing chips or closing gaps between teeth.
Are composite fillings as strong as metal (amalgam) fillings?
Modern composite resins are highly durable and chemically bond to the tooth structure, providing excellent strength. Unlike metal fillings, they require less tooth removal and expand/contract at rates similar to natural teeth.
How often should I get a dental checkup in San Francisco?
Most patients at Digital Dental Practice need a checkup every 3-4 months if they have inflammation, gum disease, or bone loss. Only patients with perfect hygiene and no restorations may wait 6 months.
What is AI cavity detection technology?
It is the clinical use of AI algorithms to analyze digital X-rays, flagging potential decay at the earliest stages for more accurate and conservative treatment.
How long does dental bonding last?
With proper care and regular professional cleanings in our 94104 office, composite bonding typically lasts between 5 to 10 years before requiring a touch-up or replacement.

I went to this Dental practice for 5 years of living in San Francisco. Maryam is amazing, and she's so kind to her patients. I came in for routine cleanings, she helped me consider a mouth guard (and they cleaned it when I came in), she handled my fillings as well. If I asked for anything she was able to help or give solid professional advice. Her energy is always positive, and she cares very deeply about her medical outcomes for patients.Posted on Yelp![]()

I highly recommend Dr. Tabar as an ethical and caring doctor, who will explain pros/cons clearly, encourage you to take care of your teeth/alignment, and only fill cavities that truly need it vs drilling unnecessarily. I was referred to Dr. Tabar by a coworker and am very happy with my experience so far. The office is super clean and I felt comfortable even during COVID -- they were wiping down all pens, chairs, wearing PPE, filtering the air in each room and through the ventilation system, etc. Dr. Tabar is personable, caring, and honest. I have had past dentists who are "drill happy" and would find and fill many tiny cavities that didn't necessarily need it. Dr. Tabar is very conservative about fillings and I haven't needed one in the 2 years I've seen her. I am also grateful that she gently yet firmly pushed me to get orthodontics for some back teeth that were terribly misaligned. Now halfway through Invisalign and happy about it.Posted on Yelp![]()

Dr. Tabar has been my dentist for three years, and I couldn't be happier. Every time I need to come in, her team attends to my teeth with care and a smile. The office is clean and modern. They have massage rollers in the dental chairs and televisions monitors hanging overhead. Imagine having your teeth whitened while watching a makeover unfold on Netflix's "Queer Eye." I've done it. It's wonderful. I appreciate that Dr. Tabar is honest with me about my dental needs. When I chipped a tooth last year and planned to have it filled, she told me flat out it wouldn't be worth the money. (The type of filling I required would pop out every six months or so, and was not covered by my dental insurance.) She could have made a lot more money on my mouth, but she had my best interests at the top of her mind. The only downside is that her office is usually running about 20 minutes behind on appointments. You can call ahead to see how the wait is. I've referred friends and my husband to Digital Dentist Practice. They won't be the last! Thanks for everything, Dr. Tabar.Posted on Yelp![]()

Dr. Tabar is the real deal. She helped me through my (unfortunate) Dentageddon of 2017 where my filling broke and I needed a root canal and crown (amongst countless fillings, doh). When she was fitting my crown, she didn't like the crown they made from the mold of my tooth (it didn't fit well), so she sent it back to be remade. She has always answered me honestly and truthfully so I will continue to go back to her in the future.Posted on Patient Connect365![]()

Front desk is super nice, they explain their policies clearly and my first appointment was pretty straightforward. Dental staff are pretty nice as well. The dental hygienist/technicians do cleanings, which surprised me a bit, as the dentist has traditionally done my cleanings before. But they did a good job. I had a cavity that needed filled, which went fine as well. Novocaine injections always skeeve me out a bit when I go to a new dentist, but Dr Tabar is pretty good with the injections. The actual filling procedure was relatively painless. They also have monitors to play Netflix for patients during longer procedures which is nice, though I found I wasn't focusing very much on it anyway, haha. Massage chairs are a nice bonus, too!Posted on Yelp![]()

Professional, efficient (it really is Digital), friendly and honest, DDP impresses me as well-managed practice with excellent staff that I recommend to anyone. Having not visited a dentist in several years, I called up DDP as a new client and got the first available appointment three weeks out. Upon arrival to their cozy third floor Financial District suite, I was promptly greeted by the receptionist and led to a computer where I typed and digitally signed my new client paperwork within five minutes. Before I could select a waiting room magazine, a friendly assistant led me to my patient chair equipped with adjustable electronic back massage and Netflix, quite Digital indeed. Being the discerning (i.e. annoying) customer I am, I elected out of receiving their recommended X-rays, which thereby makes it impossible for the doctor to fully examine my inner teeth and bone. Despite my stubborn refusal to follow their advised treatment, they politely explained the requisite risks, then obliged by letting me sign a waiver. DDP didn't act overly pushy to up-sell their services like some other dentists do, they seemed honest and trustworthy. The hygienist who proceeded cleaning my neglected teeth was very gentle, not once did I wince from an unexpected prod or poke. Dr. Tabar examined me to her best ability without having my X-rays, she confirmed I had no visual cavities or other oral ailments, then recommended scheduling a checkup in three to six months at which I might consider getting X-rays :) A satisfaction survey was emailed to me after my visit, so Digital.Posted on Patient Connect365![]()

I'm not a fan of going to the dentist but after going to Digital Dental and having been fortunate enough to have Dr. Tabar work on my mouth, I am happy to say that I actually get excited about it. I've seen dentists from the South + East Bay but I must say that Dr. Tabar is beyond exceptional. She's VERY thorough, in that she explains every aspect of your dental X-Rays to you. She outlined all the work that I needed and laid out all the costs, making it very easy for me to evaluate. I had some work done by her (specifically 2 fillings as well as some work done after a root canal), and she really spends a lot of time to make sure everything is perfect. She also really cares to make sure you are at ease during the procedures. Her assistants are all also exceptionally friendly and smart. Not to mention her receptionist is awesome as well.Posted on Yelp![]()

I hadn't been to the dentist in about 3 years, so I knew it was long overdue, especially when my tooth chipped from a deep cavity that had formed. I was in a lot of pain and I couldn't eat solid foods, so it was important that I saw someone ASAP. I did some research and read some Yelp reviews and landed on Dr. Tabar. Her whole office was extremely helpful in getting me an appointment, and helping me begin my journey to resolving the issues going on in my mouth - TMJ, cavities. Everyone in the office was extremely friendly. No one was judgmental apropos of the condition I was in. Dr. Tabar told me the exact steps I'd need to take to resolve my issues. And within 3 days, the cavity causing me pain was completely taken care of! The atmosphere at the office is very relaxing which is important to me, due to the fact that I'm terrified of dental visits. Needless to say, I am very happy with my experience with Dr. Tabar and her team and will be seeing her regularly. I'd recommend Digital Dental Practice to anyone!Posted on Yelp![]()

The best dentist I've ever had! She really takes dentistry to a whole new level! Her appointments can fit any schedule and they are personalized. No waiting in long lines as she doesn't do the double booking or stuff her office full of people. No issues with insurance either. The music is serene, the chair has a little massage function, and the towels smell of lavender. I actually had to have a rubber stopper put in my mouth because I kept dozing off through one of the procedures...lol! Her office is eco-friendly and she uses digital x-rays. I can't imagine going to any other dentist. She's all about prevention and will help you keep a great smile. A friend of mine told me that her dentist saw a weak spot on her tooth and told her to come back when there was a cavity to fill. I had the same problem and got a Rx for super flouridated toothpaste to prevent a cavity from forming. (Cheaper and better solution) She's all about preserving your natural teeth as much as possible. Love it!Posted on Yelp![]()

My wife and I have now both gone to see a relatively new dentist in downtown SF - Dr. Maryam Tabar - and it was actually positive experience. She is the most gentle dentist I have ever had. It's really nice for those of us who have to work during the week she's open for appointments on Saturday. She's the only dentist in the office and along with her assistant is doing ALL of the work even the cleaning. The office itself is brand new with all modern equipment: computerized records and forms, new special drills and cleaning stuff, the chairs even give you a massage. Overall the office has a modern professional feeling. Dr. Tabar is extremely thorough - carefully checking for everything from cavities and gum disease to oral cancer. My wife has had a couple filling done. She has problems holding her jaw oper for long periods but Dr. Tabar has been very accomodating. I'm never going to like going to the dentist but I have at last found one I feel comfortable seeing.Posted on Patient Connect365![]()

Just finished a visit with a fantastic new dentist in downtown San Francisco – Dr. Maryam Tabar. First of all let me say it’s really nice that someone finally gets it – for those of us who have to work during the week she’s open at no extra charge for appointments on Saturday. She is the only dentist working in the office and along with her assistant is doing all of the work – from the cleaning to the fillings. She says that because of this she has a chance to know the conditions and needs of her patients teeth. Second the office itself is brand new with all modern equipment: computerized records and forms, new special drills and cleaning stuff, the chairs even give you a massage. Overall the office has a modern professional feeling and is decorated in a soothing colors that are subtly calming. I put going to the dentist on the list of fun things to do just under … well, let’s just say I don’t like it. With they’re sharp metallic instruments and screaming drills it usually feels like you’ve signed up to be the demonstration dummy for a class on S&M. In contrast, Dr. Tabar was very gently. She used a sonic scraper (I think that’s what it’s called) instead of the metal scraping and it was sooo much better. She is also extremely through – carefully checking for everything from cavities and gum disease to oral cancer. I’m never going to like going to the dentist but I have at last found one I feel comfortable seeing.Posted on Yelp![]()
